Digital Theatre: New Paradigms on Stage

Abstract

Despite the total integration of audiovisuals on stage at the beginning of the 21^st century, in the past two decades we have witnessed a technical and aesthetic evolution that argues a new approach to the use of audiovisuals on the theatrical stage. In this approach, Digital theatre, the new stage paradigms, I have distinguished the contributory and the vehicular functions, as they are used by the creators in dialogue with the rest of the staging elements or when its presence is imposed over them, assembling materials from various origins. In each case I differentiate various modes of operation, which are exemplified by the performances of various artists who are models in the incorporation of audiovisuals to the theatre.
